Podcasting and education
Podcasting enables
teachers and lecturers to expand their teaching
methods to meet with the needs and wants of
the new technical savvy children of today’s
world. Podcasting and Video Podcasting can
enlarge teaching and more to the point learning
like never before. Children can become truly
engaged beyond the standard school times as
they can take this home with them and continue
to enjoy learning. Podcasting allows the children
to be a part of something amazing by letting
them create their own media and content and
access information and real time learning
that would otherwise be redundant just looking
on a website.
Many teachers and lecturers are already reaping
the rewards from using Podcasting in their
teaching methods with fantastic results. They
are using the video podcasts to enable them
to show the students things they might not
otherwise see. With certain software available
then the teachers and lecturers can actually
create their own content for the students
to watch or listen to, so it becomes a great,
unique learning tool and resource.
There is a brand new way to take learning
home and in fact anywhere the student wants
to go. For the popular iPod brand, they have
come up with a quiz called iQuiz. This therefore
allows the student the chance to learn away
from the school, for example; on holiday,
when home ill from school, or just in their
spare time. The teacher or the lecturer can
create a quiz based on materials they come
up with or what they have been learning in
schools. Teachers or lecturers can create
their own trivia packs which can then be shared
with the students other students could create
their own sub-brand of trivia packs. The options
are literally endless, and this will hopefully
allow the children to be more engaged and
interested in their learning and time at school.
Some of the opportunities for better learning
could be using music. Add music to an otherwise
silent lesson, add more to a history lesson
and other such subjects or just add some richness
and culture to historical or other areas of
teaching. Teachers and lecturers could use
podcasts made by either the teachers or the
students to showcase in the classroom. They
could download audio books on many various
subjects to aid in learning and language practice.
Downloading photographs could bring new breath
to such things as science lessons for better
and more beneficial learning.
